  1. Texture and Balance

    Pears Still Life:
I do Photography. My comments may have no meaning or benefit.
I like the balance of placement and the hint of a shadow outside of the fruit. The very dark shadow in middle transistions to light shadow outside and gives a sense of realism. It makes me think there is a surface the fruit is on. It is not floating. The texture in the work is amazing. WOW! I have never seen a pear that looks like this. But your work makes me think that you did this from real life.

  2. These are three of my favorite pieces of yours...and I'm not just referring to the fruit. HEYO! Anyway, Texture: I love the visual textures of "Hooked." The figure and its stool have a similar smoothness as if they were cast from a mold together. The contrasts with the rough texture of the grass and rooftops, lending to the surreal-ness of the composition. "Pears Still Life" exemplifies another form of visual texture. There is no flatness to the pears at all. Instead the viewer is taken through the varied landscape of the fruits, from sloping hills to recessed valleys. The texture shows us that the subject is at once a still life and a looming landscape. "Mixing" is a very well-balanced piece. The subject is flanked on either side by the two vertical borders. This is repeated in the two glasses as well as the two stir sticks. All of this leads into the face at the center creating a colonnade that brings you to the face of the subject. While not symmetrical, it does seem to have a symmetrical balance.
