  1. Often times art is created as a personal expression where the artists wants to convey to they viewer how they feel, or provoke the viewer to feel something by looking at the artwork. I consider it successful if looking at an artists’ work makes you feel something.

    The piece Behind the Wire, definitely provokes the viewer into feeling something; anger, sadness, frustration, fear are just some of the feelings it provoked. The use of actual wire not only gives the piece a three dimensional texture, but it also gives the viewer a physical reminder of what it must of have felt like for the people in the photos to be kept behind the wires. The repetition of the individual blocks creates balance in the piece and unifies it, but it as also used to create emphasis, as if the artist is insisting that you see what they are trying to say, lest you forgot the importance.
